COMPARISON BETWEEN SFG20 AND BS7671 - ELECTRICAL INSPECIN AND TESTING

SFG 20 Core Schedule: Distribution Boards Schedule  Ref : 44-07, provides planned preventative maintenance tasks for Electrical Distribution Boards.  It specifies an electrical inspections and testing regime.

EDIS NEW FEATURES AND ENHANCEMENTS

EDIS is continually improved and enhanced, since the release of BS7671 18th edition EDIS has had 6 major releases.

Each release has improved the EDIS system for its stakeholders.  Most of the features included in the releases are requested by our users.  We hope these improve the EDIS experience and enable better, faster, quicker electrical certificates and compliance management.

We give each release an animal name :-), below are some features included in the releases:

Testing large buildings and complex infrastructure is not for the faint hearted

Our observation over the last 10 years is that fixed wire testing electrical contractors, engineers and electricians are skilled and competent. However, another observation is that electrical testing programmes for large buildings and estates are fraught with issues such as incomplete testing, incomplete documentation, lack of transparency, disagreement on scope and completeness of work, tasks that are difficult to track and manage - all this leads to dissatisfied customers

EDIS ONLY FEATURE - EDIS provides a de-duping feature for better manging the data in distribution boards

EDIS improves efficiencies by providing a database with distribution board schedules which can be re-used when creating electrical certificates. Overtime this list of boards and circuits starts accumulating duplicate boards, e.g DB/P/1/ESS and P/1/Ess. The problem is that boards have partially correct information. The challenge is to merge these two sets of information.

EDIS BS7671 18th EDITION IS NOW IN FULL EFFECT

The 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) came into full effect from the 1st January 2019. An updated version of EDIS was released last week to take the BS 7671 18th edition changes into account.

When creating new EDIS certificates you will automatically be presented with the new format.

In addition to the BS 7671 2018 changes, additional features have been added to the system. For example, the organisation feature that improves contractor efficiency by allowing contractors to configure EDIS to meet their specific needs.

Your organisation electrical information assets can be managed on EDIS

Electrical Contractor's provide their electrical services in various ways- each contractor has a unique way of working. EDIS facilitates these unique ways of working by allowing organisations to store and manage their unique information assets on EDIS. These may be lists of breakers, MCB's and RCD's, observations text, logos or document templates, e.g. methods of work and risk assessments. The initial implementation focuses on Observation Groups and Observations - each observation belongs to an observation group.

EDIS SUPPORTS EASY CQC REPORTING REGULATION 15

Periodic Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspections are made on NHS Trusts to assess the quality of care that is provided; the above highlighted extract from a (CQC) Inspection report provides a practical example of a CQC finding relating to fixed wire electrical compliance. CQC Regulation 15 covers Premises and Equipment and includes the requirement to adhere to electrical regulations.

BS7671 18th Edition Electrical Certificate Changes

As an EDIS user, the 18th Edition changes will be automatically available to you.

The 650 page BS7671 18th edition was released in July 2018, there are many additions and changes. Fortunately, the electrical installation, condition report and minor works certificates are not widely different from the 17th edition models. The biggest change is in the Minor Works certificate where content has been moved around to highlight the 'presence and adequacy of earthing and bonding arrangements'.

EDIS provides greater visibility and control over electrical works throughout the Hackney Council commercial sites

“Fixed Wire Testing is a particularly sensitive activity and one of the many responsibilities Hackney has under Statutory Legislation.  The EDIS system is bespoke and tailored for activity specific to our sites. It will give Hackney much greater visibility and control over the work carried out on electrical circuits throughout the Hackney commercial sites,” says Paul Jarvis, Maintenance Contract Manager at Hackney Council.
