In January 2018 vulnerabilities that affect most modern Intel processors was rumoured and subsequently confirmed. These problems are collectively known as the “Meltdown Attack” and the “Spectre Attack.” In both cases computers which run more than one application can be manipulated to leak private data, e.g. passwords. This is a CPU level vulnerability and requires patches to the operating system. After a review and initial patches the risk is now deemed a low. Further maintenance is planned.
