What is EDIS?

EDIS is an internet based system that serves all stakeholders in meeting the electrical compliance challenge.

EDIS is used to manage electrical compliance across the estate. EDIS provides an integrated solution for ensuring electrical compliance - regardless of the number of buildings, geographic distribution or number of electrical contractors. EDIS provides a central web based repository - one version of the truth - for electrical certificates, distribution board schedules, electrical schematics, compliance status, next test dates and much more.

It provides a simple, convenient web based software to create, edit, store and recall all the information relating to electrical certificates and electrical installations. EDIS follows the requirements of British Standard BS 7671 "Requirements for electrical installations".

EDIS is is used to manage the electrical data in buildings, to control the collation and quality of electrical certificates and ensure continuity when key staff or contractors leave.

ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS, ELECTRICIANS AND CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES

EDIS is a web based solution for creating and managing electrical certificates. Electricians use EDIS to create electrical certificates, manage electrical testing programmes, reducing paper and making the required information accessible and available to authorised users. Because EDIS is web based the information and certificates can be easily shared with all authorised users- saving time, paper and money.

EDIS follows the format required by BS7671, 2008, Amendment no.1.

Amendment 1 to the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008

Amendment 1 to the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008 was published in July 2011 and will come into effect on 1 January 2012. EDIS will be ready with the new format before January 2012, the existing and new format reports will then be available and accessible to authorised users.

One of the changes in this Amendment 1 to the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008 is the renaming of the Periodic Inspection Report as an ’Electrical Installation Condition Report’ or EICR. The main impact on the existing EDIS format will be re-naming the Periodic Inspection Report as a ‘Condition’ report with adjustments to existing form layouts in order to comply with Schedule 6 of the ammendment.

The new report schedules provide different report layouts for different types of installation. There are three types:

An inspection schedule for a single distribution board installation for domestic and similar premises
An inspection schedule for the main intake and associated circuits for a multiple distribution board installation
An inspection schedule for each distribution board of a multiple distribution board installation

There are also new Observation Codes, these will replace the existing category error codes. Changes to the Observation Codes to help make reporting more consistent between inspectors and making priorities clearer. There will now be 3 codes instead of 4.

Old PIR Code 1- Requires Urgent Attention changes to Code C1- Danger Present
Old PIR Code 2- Requires Improvement changes to Code C2- Potentially Dangerous
Old PIR Code 3- Requires further investigation changes to Code C3- Improvement,

The existing PIR Code 4 ‘Does not comply with BS 7671:2008′ will no longer be used. EDIS includes two further information codes: 5-'Non-compliance found and has been resolved' and INFO - 'an for information only item'.

These changes will be implemented and tested in EDIS before Jan2012.
